Purple pipe is for potable gray-water. Gray- water is wastewater from shower drains, bathtubs, sinks, dishwashers and washing machines.  This gray water accounts for between 50-80% of our home, offices, and schools outflow. Gray water can be reused for irrigation, toilet flushing and exterior washing.  To design the plumbing systems to allow gray water to be reused requires space for a holding tank.  If the home or facilities is under construction the cost is minimal to install with the potable water rough in.

The gray water, reclaimed water systems will persist to develop as the green movement continues to grow.  It is projected that in three to five years, gray water reuse systems will be the ordinary.
